The Govinator

Jean Claude Van Dam, Steven Segal, and Arnold Schwarzenagger all decide to go out trick-or-treating as musical composers for Halloween. They go into a costume store and look for masks. Jean Claude sees a costume that he likes and says, "I think I'll go as Beethoven." Steven Segal sees a costume that grabs his attention and says, "I'll be Mozart." Arnold had a tough time finding a costume that he liked, but he eventually found one that appeased his interest. He picks up a costume and said, "I'll be Bach."

All Wrapped Up

Why do mummies have trouble keeping friends?

They're so wrapped up in themselves.

Chased By A Coffin

A man is walking home alone late on Halloween night. It's dark, and the streetlights are out. Suddenly, he hears: BUMP! BUMP! BUMP!

Behind him. He walks faster, but the sound keeps coming. BUMP! BUMP! BUMP!

Worried he is being followed, he glances behind him and through the darkness, and he can just see an upright coffin. No one seems to be holding the coffin; it's just bumping down the street behind him.

The man is scared. He's sure it's following him! In an effort to shake it off, her turns a corner. To his relief, the sound stops. He keeps walking but before a minute has passed, he hears the familiar sound behind him again: BUMP! BUMP! BUMP!

He is terrified! He starts to run towards his home, but the faster he runs, the faster the coffin bounces along behind him! Bumpity BUMP! Bumpity BUMP! Bumpity BUMP!

He pushes open his front gate, and runs up the path, fumbling for his keys. The coffin reaches the gate and effortlessly pushes it open. It's right behind him!!!

Finally his shaking hands manage to unlock his front door. He has no time to slam it behind him; the coffin is right on his heels! He rushes up the stairs, praying the coffin cannot climb after him. BUMP! BUMP! BUMP!

The coffin pauses at the bottom of the stairs. The man breathes a sigh of relief but...clappity BUMP...clappity BUMP...clappity BUMP...

The coffin is now climbing the stairs behind him. He runs to the bathroom perhaps he can lock himself in there! His heart pounds and his lungs hurt with the exertion of running for his life! He has only just latched the bathroom door when...CRASH!!!

The coffin breaks through the bathroom door! What can he do? The coffin is nearly upon him! He reaches out for something heavy that he can throw at the coffin, and his hand comes to rest on a large bottle of cough syrup. Desperately, he throws the cough syrup as hard as he can at the coffin and...

Finally, the coffin stops!!!!!

He heard it had great circulation.

HELP! The Search Is On - Attention all ye Monkie Heads! We have run HELP!into a minor dilemma and need to turn to your ever watchful expertise for help. Here's the sitch: The folks from The Apple Collection recently posted a series of "Colored Docks Desktop" (Lime, Cherry, Aqua, etc.) that are listed as available here at MacMonkies. This, unfortunately, is not the case. The real klinker is that we have received BUNCHES of e mail asking where they are. So if you are the author of these fine desktop delights, or if you know of their original location, please contact us so we can point all of you GUI lovers in the right direction. THANKS!

Tomorrow: New GOO! - Tomorrow brings another fantabulous chance to pump up your pixel experience with a very special Friday GUI Edition! Not only will you get your weekly dose of icons, but some fun under the Great Pumpkin's sun with additional Halloween treats. Network News

the WebWorld - BeanHead

Mysterious iPods Unleashed - A ghost of a tale came true for Apple fans yesterday, as a U2 special edition iPod was presented in the presence of Steve Jobs and U2 members, Bono and The Edge. iPod U2 gives fans plenty to howl about with its black casing, red wheel, and band members signatures engraved onto the back. iPod Photo was also introduced. With a screen that displays up to 65,536 colors and the capacity to run iPhoto as well as iTunes, iPod Photo is sure to send chills up a spine or two. - from MacCentral

Steves Scare Up History - There is no trick when it comes to what a great Jobsentrepreneur Apple's CEO is, only a treat. There is also a treat for Steve Jobs, as he has been listed as one of the top ten pumpkins in the patch of all time. Jobs and fellow partner in crime, Steve Wozniak, made it into MSNBC's top ten entrepreneurs of all history. This is no hoax, as there are people who existed B.C. named on the list. The Steves can take their listing as quite a compliment, as they keep company with characters such as Thomas Edison and Benjamin Franklin. - from MacWorld

Gum Disguises Humans - A hunter has plans to market chewing gum which disguises humans from deer. Hunters are already turned invisible by wearing camouflage. There are even shampoos and soaps that can make their scents vanish into thin air. A dentist once suggested that deer may sense hunters through the scent of their breath, prompting one hunter in particular to brew up a breath mask. Gum-o-Flage will hide hunters breath, allowing hunters to sneak up on deer closer than ever without spooking them away. - from CNews

At The Top - WHOA! All **kinds** of goodies are in the News asU2 iPod we head into the final stretch of Halloween's winding path! Included in the events are some bobbing apples from Apple: The unveiling of the U2 iPod, iPod Photo, iTunes 4.7, and QuickTime 6.5.2; to the best way to shift your GUI shape with the release of ShapeShifter 2.0 from the fabulous folks at Unsanity, and much more! PHEW!

But that's not all! We have a fine selection of Halloween howlers lined up for your Wednesday Desktop Edition! And of course we've a spirited selection of News and Banana bites from all around the web. So let's get movin' along before the ghoulies get around to get ya!

New GOO!

New Desktops - Aaaaoooooo! The moon is full and so is the Gallery as we pull out the GUI brew for your pre-Halloween Desktop Edition! There's 5 New Desktops prepared to scare the imperfect pixels away and invite in an all new coat of tainted desktop paint. Let's get dem bones a rollin'!

Desktops - No "who do voodoo" here! Victor Emert gets right to the PushPinpixel point with the prickly and piercing perspective of PushPin! With seemingly no patience for your run-of-the-mill splat of the desktop matte, Victor carefully calls up his clever craft and artistic abilities to conjure up this painstakingly, sharp shootin' desktop a-tac!

Etc... - Making some history of mystery, William D. Thompson digs Sugary Skullduggeryup the Mexican holiday, the Day of the Dead, which comes "alive" this Nov. 2nd. In Sugary Skullduggery, the figures are made of sugar, especially for and only for this day. They are colorful figures to be placed on altars to the dead and are selected by family members depending on what they wish to offer the departed. One of the skulls has a little sign there, Te espero -- I'm waiting for you!

Also made from the grave is another selection from Mr. Thompson The Cryptstitled The Crypts. Here you will see the crypts beneath the main altar of the parochial church of San Miguel de Allende, using only available light in the dimly-lit crypts. Though one can see it to be a bit somber for some peoples' tastes, it reveals the reality of love's lost longing.

Nature - The unrestful winds make their way into the Nature DepartDarkingment with the wistful work of Johanna and Bob Wiley. The stormy piece titled Darking can be said to be "Louder and higher and lower and wider the sound and motion spread, mounting, sinking, darking." Their eyes were watching God. It appears as though the Spirit breathed a blessing on the crafters of this restless storm!

3-D Rendered - Pharaoh, let my people go! Well, some people don't Death Angellisten too well, as was the case with Egypt's king many moons ago. Before Moses could lead the Israelites out of about 400 years of slavery, it took the passing over of the Almighty's Death Angel, killing the first born of all not covered by the sacrificial lamb. What a way to go! This erie depiction by MacMonkies' Doctor of Gloom Bradford Wiles gives a gloomy glimpse of what might have been. Enjoy!

Thanks Department --

Victor, William, and Bob...

No tricks about it!

Your works are a wealth of GUI treats!

Value Of The iMac - Windows users who are in the market for a new PC will find iMacApple's iMac G5 to be a most valuable asset. Not only is the magnificent new machine a mighty desktop space saver, it is also quiet as a mouse. The dynamic iMac also offers more in the performance department than PC users are accustomed to, making iMac G5 much more of a value for their money. As if all of that isn't enough, Apple's second-to-none software bundles make iMac G5 even more valuable, not to mention security, which is the number one advantage of an Apple. - from News-Leader.com

iTunes Part Of Pilot Program - iTunes is participating in a University pilot program which hopes to give students a way to download music and movies without getting in trouble with copyrights. Schools will fire up file sharing programs so students can share files legally instead of using campus networks to download illegally. Funding for the test run will be provided by a major music label in support of the schools' efforts, and if all goes well students will eventually be fined a small fee for the service. Such a program should save students from the threat of infringing copyrights. - from MacNewsWorld

Making Memories - Futuristic thinkers are finding ways to help humans retain Remember!!!! memory. Scientists have a strategy to stick storage chips into the brains of rats which beef up their memory. Just as people put chips in their computers to create more memory on the machine, this chip also acts as a separate storage unit from the brain, creating the capacity for more memory. If the chips can electronically translate the brains input into the correct output, than electrical memory could take the place of biological memory. It is hoped that this will help people who have suffered memory loss. - from Wired

More Updated Pages - The face of things around ye ol' Monkie Hut keeps gettin' a little brighter as the weekend provided time to update some more pages with our new look. Now sharing the new design is the Search, About, Contact/Comments, The Staff, and the Translate pages. Perhaps needless to say, the entire project is going to take some time. So, we'll just keep plunking away at the pixels.

Also worth mentioning is the Translate page. We found that a couple of the language translators have ceased to function through Babel Fish as they are currently configured. We'll check into this and see what's up. Until then, thanks for your patience!

Stop The Beat

A car decided not to stop for a stop sign but decided to slow down instead. A cop saw him and followed for about a mile before pulling him over. The cop got him out of his car and said "Why didn't you stop?"

The man said, "I slowed down."

The cop pulled out his nightstick and started beating him. "Now," the cop said, "do you want me to stop or slow down?"

Penny For Your Thoughts

Girl Potato and Boy Potato had eyes for each other, and finally they got married, and had a little sweet potato, which they called 'Yam.'  Of course, they wanted the best for Yam.

When it was time, they told her about the facts of life. They warned her about going out and getting half-baked, so she wouldn't get accidentally mashed, and get a bad name for herself like 'Hot Potato,' and end up with a bunch of Tater Tots. Yam said not to worry, no Spud would get her into the sack and make a rotten potato out of her!

But on the other hand she wouldn't stay home and become a Couch Potato either. She would get plenty of exercise so as not to be skinny like her Shoestring cousins.

When she went off to Europe, Mr. and Mrs. Potato told Yam to watch out for some hard-boiled guys, and the greasy guys called the French Fries. And when she went out west, to watch out for the Indians so she wouldn't get scalloped.  Yam said she would stay on the straight and narrow and wouldn't associate with those high class Yukon Gold's.

Mr. and Mrs. Potato sent Yam to Idaho P.U. (that's Potato University) so that when she graduated she'd really be in the Chips. But in spite of all they did for her, one-day Yam came home and announced she was going to marry Tom Brokaw.

Tom Brokaw! Mr. and Mrs. Potato were very upset. They told Yam she couldn't possibly marry Tom Brokaw because he's just...A COMMON TATER!
