October 9-10, 2004

Miscellaneous Monkie - Just a couple of notes for all of you Monkie heads: 1st up, if you're hip on IP numbers, and prefer connecting via the IP address method, ours has just changed. It is now 206.53.60.135. Please bookmark this address for future reference.

2nd, it was mentioned that a new site look was just around the corner. Being anxious to getMonkie Notes the look online, countless hours were involved in getting all of the details fine tuned. However, in the process of all of the blurry-eyed, almost sleepless nights, a bit of burn out began to set in. Needless to say, a bit of a break was definitely needed. So, the break's been broken and it's time to get back to work. The remaining tasks include style sheet tweaks and to update all of the departments with the new looks (a chore and then some).

I will now get back to this work, as I am in hopes you will all enjoy the outcome. With that said, let's have a weekend grin!

WAILING WHALE

What do you do with a blue whale?

Cheer it up!

SHOT DOWN

An airplane pilot had had a particularly difficult flight and a rough landing. The airline had a policy which required the first officer to stand at the door while the passengers exited, smile and give them a ''Thanks for riding Delta Airlines.'' But, in light of his bad landing, the pilot had a hard time looking the passengers in the eye, thinking that someone would have a smart comment.

Finally, everyone had gotten off except for this little old lady walking with a cane. She said, "Sonny, mind if I ask you a question?"

"Why no, Ma'am," replied the pilot, "what is it?"

The little old lady said, "Did we land or were we shot down?"

NOSE DRUNK

A nose walks into a bar and asks for a drink.

The bartender says, "Sorry, I can't serve you, you're off your face!"

GENIE-US

A young man fell in a pit one day and found a magic lamp with a genie inside. The genie told him he would grant him three wishes. The man's first wish was to get out of the pit.

**POOF**

He then wished for all the gold in the world.

**POOF**

The man could not think of anything for his third wish so he bought a Ferrari with some of his gold. As he was driving in his new car, he turned on the radio began to sing along with his favorite advertising jingle: "Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Meyer Wiener..."

Crazy Man, Crazy...Tomorrow: New Icons - Hmmm...Me wonders what's in the making for tomorrow. New Icons in the Gallery? Perhaps. A big bang blast from Mount St. Helen? Maybe. More rhetorical counter-attacks by each of the presidential candidates and their party affiliates? That would be most likely of anything under the sun. As for the Monkie Zoo, we'll do our best to return with good news and GOO in order to pile on the smiles as we prepare for your Friday Icon Edition. That should begin a grin already. See you then!

iMaciMac G5 Inside And Out - It is said that a book should not be judged by its cover. When it comes to the Apple iMac G5, however, the inside matches up to the outside. It can be judged either for its good looks or for its impeccable performance. The desktop, which seemingly floats above the desktop, comes loaded with the best Mac software, running all the programs at an astonishing rate without making a peep. Inside and out, this amazing Apple never ceases to amaze. - from Detroit Free Press

Mac's Got The Look - When comparing Macs and PCs, there is one area where Microsoft falls short every time. It simply lacks the concept of 'cool.' Though desperately trying to delve into the market of home digital devices, Microsoft cannot manage to strike passion in the public the way Apple can. That is because being 'cool' cannot be bought or advertised. It is just something a company is or isn't. And Apple has definitely got the market on 'cool.' - from ZD Net UK

PlaneLive From The Sky It's Saturday Night - Soon airline passengers will be able to view live television when plugging in their laptops. Four channels will be available to watch while flying the friendly skies. Passengers need simply to plug laptops into the internet services on board and will be charged a minute-by-minute fee for short flights, and an unlimited access fee for flights lasting longer than six hours. Live television stations may available in flight as early as next Spring. - from The New Zealand Herald

MIKE TYSON'S BEER

Did you hear about the beer named after Mike Tyson?

It's called Nick-A-Lobe.

NICKEL-DIMING JOHNNY

There was a little boy named Johnny who used to hang out at the local corner market. The owner didn't know what Johnny's problem was, but the boys would constantly tease him.

They would always comment that he was two bricks shy of a load, or two pickles short of a barrel. To prove it, sometimes they would offer Johnny his choice between a nickel (5 cents) and a dime (10 cents) and John would always take the nickel -- they said, because it was bigger.

One day after John grabbed the nickel, the store owner took him aside and said "Johnny, those boys are making fun of you. They think you don't know the dime is worth more than the nickel. Are you grabbing the nickel because it's bigger, or what?"

Slowly, Johnny turned toward the store owner and a big grin appeared on his face and Johnny said, "Well, if I took the dime, they'd stop doing it, and so far I have saved $20!"

RAINY DAY COP

It's a nasty day, and a guy gets pulled over for speeding. The cop says, "Isn't it kind of stupid to be driving so fast in this storm?"

The driver says, "Who's stupid? You're the one who's standing out in the rain."

XServeXServe Is Speediest Server - When comparing computer clusters, those made with Mac fair faster than the others. The 'Tungston' cluster built with Dell servers operates at an average of 3.1 Gigaflops per CPU, where Virginia's XServe cluster performs at a powerful 3.7 Gigaflops. MACH 5, the Army XServe cluster, goes so far as to operate at 4.8 Gigaflops. This leaves even the fastest PC cluster, 'Lightening,' which performs at 4.0 Gigaflops, in the dust. - from MacObserver and LinuxInsider

iPod To Ride Radio Waves - Apple has posted a position in its iPod division which seems to point to the possibility of radio. The ad is asking for engineers with expertise in radio communication as well as encryption. It is suspected that this 'RF Hardware Engineer' is being hired to help add radio capability to the many other capacities already contained on the iPod. Apple has also advertised for engineers having Bluetooth and Wi-Fi experience in its iPod division. - from MacMinute

Future Face OffFuture Face Off - An exhibit called Future Face is taking the idea of touching up photos one step further. It suggests the technology of turning touch-ups into face transplants. Even today most people touch up photos of their faces, using programs such as Photoshop. Many people have even turned to cosmetic surgery to look better. In the future, people will be able to scan their faces, touch them up on the computer, and have a new face implanted. - from BBC

Crazy man, crazy! At The Top - Phew! We made it through another week and are already preparing for a push toward the end of another! But of course, for every end, another beginning is about to begin...What a vicious circle! Oh well. Maybe it's time we just stop making sense and ramble on with the Monkie song of spin city in the Smile Department and report the world news from an alternative cyber reality. Besides, if you're making sense of this, you're one up on the Monkie. Let's boogie!

Monkie News

Monkie Notes - There's a couple things to address here. First up, we mentioned over the weekend that a reader reported that icons found on Icons Page 59, once downloaded, would give them the prompt that they were "damaged or corrupt." So far, I have only been able to replicate this issue when using StuffIt Expander on Windows XP. However, we have heard from several different readers using a variety of OS versions (including XP) and no one else seems to experience this problem. I am beginning to wonder if it may be an isolated issue with StuffIt Expander, but I am still not certain and will continue to investigate.

If any of you have any ideas as to what may be causing this problem, please feel free to drop us a line. To those of you who have sent your input already, we extend a great big THANKS!!

Finally, I have received several e-mails recently that I have yet to answer. I want to personally apologize for the delay in getting back to you and to let you know that I will be in touch. Though it has been an exceptionally busy month, I should not get this behind. To all of you, thanks for your patience!

- Brad

GOOD SPORT

At one point during a game, the coach said to one of his young players, "Do you understand what cooperation is? What a team is?"

The little boy nodded in the affirmative.

"Do you understand that what matters is whether we win together as a team?"

The little boy nodded yes.

"So," the coach continued, "when a strike is called, or you're out at first, you don't argue or curse or attack the umpire. Do you understand all that?"

Again the little boy nodded.

"Good," said the coach, "now go over there and explain it to your mother."

HIGH SEAS ADVENTURE

There was this couple that had twins and they couldn't decide what to name them. When they were teenagers, the dad noticed that one of them always looked towards the sea and the other looked away, so he decided to call them Towards and Away.

Then, one day, the dad decides to take the twins on a trip out to sea to go fishing. Months pass, then years. Finally, the dad comes back looking tired.

The mom asks him what happened and he said that all three of them were fishing one day and Towards had caught a hold of a big fish on his rod. Since the fish was so strong, it carried Towards away.

The mom said, "Oh, what a horrible, cruel fish!"

The dad said, "Yeah, you should've seen the one that got Away."

WOOD I?

These two friends are about to go to a club. One of them has a wooden eye. He said "If someone says something about my eye, i'm gonna snap."

They get there, and he asks a girl to dance. She says, "Would I?"
