with the big businesses that were bugged with computer viruses
this Fall. Many man hours have been put in debugging machines

a box has been built to carry bananas. The inventor became

change in 'clothes'? Dunno. Why the title 'Watching'?
Dunno that either. Guess the old Monkie Master felt a
bit of paranoia set in. Or he just thought Hal was watching.
Enjoy!

Mac's Got The Look
- The Mac logo will be getting a makeover for the up and
coming new Mac OS code named Panther. The shapely bitten
apple which started out with the colors of the rainbow years
ago will now be going chrome. Shiny silver seems to be Steve
Jobs' thing lately, and the new look of the logo will be
no exception. Still the sentiment of the bitten Apple shape
remains the same, no matter how many stages it has gone

paper-like movie screens? That's right, scientists are developing
electronic paper on which movies could be viewed eventually.
Color dots have been devised inside sheets of paper thin

these color dots can be controlled -- SHAZAM! Video activity
will be viewable. The public will no longer be looking in
the paper to see what shows are playing, they will be looking
at a paper thin plastic screen to take in the movies. -

At The Top
- Hi folks. This is truly the hardest update I've
ever had to do here at MacMonkies. I received word last
week that my friend and fellow GUI artist, Rene
Mollema of Happicon,
had passed away due to a heart attack.
Rene
would have been 27 years young today. It's kinda hard to
grin when you know that the web's biggest smile is no longer
with us. However, since Rene was hugely responsible for
the grin around here, I owe it to him to keep those smilin'
fires glowin'.
I have put some of my thoughts down as a Tribute
to Rene. I hope you will take a moment and take a glance.
And to Rene's family and friends, our thoughts and prayers
are with you.
For
Rene Mollema: A Tribute
Shine On Little
Star! - I first saw Rene's icon work in
June of 2001. I was in awe of his exceptionally cheerful
talent. Eventually I found myself at Happicon,
which was hosted by Apple's iTools. Since I had questions
about how to use my iTools account to start my own site,
I took a chance and wrote Rene, introduced myself, and asked
for his help. I was pleasantly surprised that someone I
didn't even know wrote me back eager to answer my questions.
Rene's
help ignited my enthusiasm for the Community spirit. Rene
always shared a smile whether with his work or in the correspondence
between us. I will truly miss Rene, but the memory of him
will always inspire me to help others. Rene's outlook also
inspired me to incorporate a cheerful theme with the format
at MacMonkies. For this, I am forever grateful.
I had the honor and privilege of displaying
all of Rene's work here at MacMonkies. His talent was exceptional.
Though his smiling faces will always make that Little Star
shine, I will remember him most for his willingness to give
to others. That, to me, is what it's all about. Rene, you
really made a difference. Shine on you crazy diamond!
