At The Top - Eeeeeeeeeyessss!!! We've made it through the week...Phew (Sierra)! What a dinger it has been. But the weekend is almost here and that means it's time for our Friday Icon Edition! With this you get some fine new pixels to place on your computer and a few words of News and Bananas too! Back To The Apple - Steve Jobs' partner of old has passed on permission for the original Apple 1 computer to be produced again. Technician Vince Briel initially contacted Apple to confirm this computer concept. When he didn't hear back from the head honchos at Headquarters, he e-mailed Steve Woz asking if he would approve of the work. Woz bestowed his blessing upon Briel by e-mailing him back. Though Briel cannot produce the Apple 1 with all original parts, he is bent on building it to operate like the first Mac back in the day. - from Wired

The Buddy System - A pet monkey in Germany has appeared to be jealous of his owner's wife, Claudia. The monkey, Buddy, has begun pulling her hair whenever she shares the bed with her beloved. The two even tried locking Buddy out of the bedroom, but it only triggered him to screech at the top of his lungs. Since the pet has proceeded to kick her out of place, Claudia has conceded to sleeping in the spare room in order to spare neighbors the noise of the couple's all but mute monkey. - from Ananova

At The Top - It's raining, it's pouring, the Monkie is boring! Raining? Well, yes! Quite a bit at the moment. Boring Monkie? Now that's another story! =) But come rain or boring Monkie tales, it's once again time to roll out this week's Wednesday Desktop Edition. And boy do we have some fine selections to choose from. In addition, we plop a helping of Community News, Software News On The Net, and Bananas to wash it all down. So how about we grab our GUI platters and fill 'em up. Soup is served!

New GOO!

New Desktops - WOW! What a great lineup this week for our Wednesday Desktop Edition! There are 5 New Desktops filling nearly all sections of the Gallery. And of course the creators of these gems are among the finest desktop artists on the net. Toss off that cheap jewelry and adorn your desktop with these fine works of art!

Fun - Everybody say yeah! It's been a while since we've added an entry to the Fun Department. So to begin this week's fun, we are pleased as purple punch to induct an excellent example of Marty Leone's sense of humor and skill at the pixel pallet with Bloated Trout: Atlantis. This awesome selection is certain to bring a big fat old Monkie grin to your desktop without adding too many calories to your GUI diet!

 

Desktops - The most excellent Ed Allen of the EA Design royalty brings yet another fine minimalistic piece to your desktop with Echo And Bounce from his White Void collection. Don't know how he does it, but Ed manages to marry color and style to the finest form of simplicity to produce a piece that will make your desktop shine with the class of castles and kings!

 

Nature - Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall, there's always room for an excellent entry in the Nature Department from Pictures and Adicons' multi-talented Adam Dickson. His latest digital masterpiece Fern will keep your desktop fresh and green all year around. And just think: You'll never have to soil your green thumb or break out the gardening hose to add a drop of water!

 

3-D Rendered - Another 3-D masterpiece called Coming Home finds its way into the Gallery from ShiftedReality. From the digital craftsmanship of Juergen Eilts, this absolutely stunning work of art sails in with a glorious sunset and calm of the sea on its way to your desktop home. Juergen created this digital re-creation of reality with some awesome inspiration and Vue d'Esprit 4. A must-have addition to your collections!

Bringin' up the rear is a burp and a bubble from Monkie Master Bradford Wiles with a simple selection titled Aqua Bubble. Though seemingly simple in appearance and design, this little number is made up of several spheres and took over 1.5 hours to render. Guess the old Monkie had a bit too much to eat! Enjoy!

Ten Million And Counting - The iTunes Music Store just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Apple reported that the ten millionth tune has now been downloaded since iTunes was introduced. Break it down and the number becomes an average of 500,000 tunes downloaded per week. Add to that a new 40 gigabyte iPod and the availability of iTunes to Windows users by the end of the year and the world will continue to watch the success of iTunes explode right before their eyes! - from Apple

Jiggler keeps your Mac awake through those lengthy tasks when it would rather fall asleep by jiggling your mouse periodically. No more having to open System Preferences to change your sleep time and your screensaver delay, only to have to change them back again at the end. Just jiggle! Icon2Pic 1.0 - Just in from Icon Pic is news of the immediate availability of Icon2Pic 1.0. This cool tool for OSX is an icon management and manipulation tool. Simply drag and drop files or folders to extract, browse, and change icons! Here's the scoop on all you can do:

• Export custom icons to different sizes and formats (tiff, png, pdf, jpeg, gif and icns)
• Export icons to a custom size
• Browse available pictures inside a custom icon and drag and drop pictures to other applications
• Set a custom icon or a combination of two custom icons to your files or folders browse history of dropped icons and re-use them
