Icons | Community News | On The Net | Bananas

August 29-31, 2003

Monkie DJAt The Top - Good golly Miss Molly! The weekend is almost here! And to fix up your weekend activities is our Friday Icon Edition. With this you get a fine collection of fabulous New Icons, Community News, Software News On The Net, and a smirk of Bananas. Around this neck of the woods, we insist on having fun. So that's what is on the Monkie Menu just for you.

Also, we will be taking yet another weekend off (is this guy gettin' old or what?). But we will be back with a short blurb or 2 come Monday. So be sure to enjoy your weekend and definitely, definitely have some fun. But be sure to be safe on this Holiday weekend, ya hear? Now let's get in the groove and get on the move with the GOO!

Looky!

New GOO!

New Icons - Mmm, mmm, good! Nothin' like a good batch of 4 New Icon Sets to set the old GUI appetite on the course of good fixin's! This week we have a delightful set of pixel treats to make them Icon eyes smile from ear to ear. So grab your pixel plate and let's dig in!

DV Graphics - It's been a long time since we rock 'n' rolled! But DV Graphics' Tacky ShirtPaul Sahner cranks up the icon tunage with his wild and whacky Tacky Shirt icon collection. Paul combines his Iconize Me! Mac celebrity faces with some really loud and 'tacky' shirts that make for plenty of interchangeable fun in the sun without even breaking out the sun block. But you might need some shades for this loud set!

miX the piX - WOW! Mr. miX the piX Hein Mevissen knows no end to the process of high quality creativity! His latest round of piXel perfection comes in the form of the founder of modern science fiction Jules Verne. Whether you're headed on a Journey to the Center of the Earth or just sprinting Around the World in Eighty Days, this Pixadex iContainer Edition pays great tribute to a great writer!

wbc icons - Nope! Yazoo from wbc icons hasn't gone 'Postal'! But he sure Stampscan put his stamp of excellence on things with a fine set of six titled Stamps! This great group of pixel postage features tigers, zebras, and even something wrapped up for Christmas. All together, they make great replacements for your Mail app or even saved e-mails from everyone on your short list!

Iconizer Icon Studios - Did I hear you say you want some fine folders? Well,Some Folders we don't have just some folders for you, we've got Some Folders! Master icon crafter Wessley Roche over yonder at Iconizer Icon Studios manages to make every pixel shine with all kinds of GUI glory and adds that extra sparkle to your desktop's delight. And you don't even need to break out the wax! Enjoy!

Thanks Department --

Yazoo, Hein, Paul, and Wessley...

Absolutely mind blowing work!

THANK YOU!!

"By the time cousin Jack died he had a transplanted heart, a plastic hip joint, a plastic leg and a plastic arm."

"Where did they bury him?'"

"Duh - they didn't bury him, he was recycled!"

Blue VibrationDesktops - I don't think the Beach Boys did the twist, but you're sure to get some great vibes from our latest contributor's creation Blue Vibration. Out of the blue...Well, you get the picture!

Homestar G5Another new artist to the Monkie Galleries steps up the Desktop fun with Homestar G5. Combining digital design and his own hand crafted skills, Robert Curtis drew this parody of StrongBad and Homestarrunner, where in one of the cartoons Strongbad fools Homestar into thinking he has something inside a paper bag. And yes, Robert drew this all himself!

Heavy RotationSure to be a hit in your desktop collections comes a great new number from EA Design's Ed Allen titled Heavy Rotation. Ed really puts the artistic spin on this outstanding display of desktop design. And as it rapidly moves up the pixel charts, we're certain that it will receive heavy rotation among your desktop airplay!

GridNow I gotta be honest. I really didn't think that Grid would amount to much. But after MacMonkies webmaster Bradford Wiles was finished putting a Photoshop filter on a simple pattern, it didn't turn out to shabby after all. It kinda glows on ya! Enjoy!

iPod Sets European Standard - The European Imaging and Sound Association EISA(EISA) has bestowed its honor of best Internet Audio Device to none other than the Apple iPod. In conjunction with the iTunes Music Store, Apple's iPod caused a comeback for the EISA Internet Audio category, as this creative category hasn't even been included in the contest since the year 2000. EISA stated that the selected song player has set a standard for the future when it comes to music and the internet. - from MacCentral and Macworld UK

Computer MonkieKids Want Computer Careers - Some people may still be pondering the question "What do you want to be when you grow up?" A survey of UK children has shown how much the computer industry has impacted the answers to that age old question. Kids questioned by IT service operators chose a career in computers over being a doctor, and even over being a pop star. Some kids are migrating toward technology due to the money they can make, but many of them simply esteem it to be exciting. - from The Register

How many actors does it take to change a light bulb?

1. One. They hate to share the spotlight.

2. One to change it, and 99 to stand there saying, "I could have done it better."

3. Just one. He stands there, and the world revolves around him.

4. That depends on what the script says.

5. He just holds it, and the world revolves around him.

6. Doesn't the stage manager do that?

7. Well, first I have to know the light bulb's motivation...

8. How many straight actors does it take to screw in a light bulb? Both of them.

The 'Bug'

Last night, I got home from a blues jam. While I was putting away my amp, I gave out a little yawn. Just as I inhaled, in flew a bug...Right down my throat!!!

Yum yum!

Well, I am not here to talk about protein, but there have been a lot of 'bugs' flying around the internet lately - Windows viruses. Being an avid Mac user, I have been unaffected by this. But the Windows world has not been so fortunate.

Now, here's the thing that's really buggin' me:

While I must admit that I used to giggle at the Win users because they got caught so much, I don't much anymore. Let me give you my 2 point scoop and then I will go back to coughing up my own bug.

1. I work for an Internet Service Provider. Our company received a flood of calls by users asking for help to remove these viruses. Unfortunately, we had to refer many to PC technicians that charge a very expensive fee for a small task. It REALLY ticks me off that because of the jerks who create viruses, a lot of people had to spend money that they did not have --
including
elderly folks who are new to the internet zoo.

2. I have heard some gripes about Win users that don't have their PC's 'cleaned up' from the virus attacks. And I agree with this - if you don't get your computer fixed, you will pass the bug on to someone else. But again, many folks out there were"forced" into the age of computers just so they can communicate with their families who don't practice old school communication. So they may not know how.

The bottom line? If you're gonna be mad about the virus situation, perhaps the anger should be directed at those creating the mess, rather than at those who are a victim of it.
