Absent Monkie - As we mentioned earlier, Tina
"The Bean" Spicer will be getting married the first week of next month. Even
though she's the one that has a lifetime ahead to plan for, this Monkie (that's
me) has some responsibilities in connection with her wedding to fulfill.
So for my part - from now until the wedding - I will be taking a break from
the weekend updates. Until everything gets back to "normal," I thank everyone
for your patience!

21st Century Man Part
II
You know you're living in the 21st Century when...
10. You learn you've been laid off on the 11 o'clock news.
11. Your boss doesn't have the ability to do your job.
12. Contractors outnumber permanent staff and are more likely to get long-service
awards.
13. You read this entire list, and kept nodding and smiling.
14. As you read this list, you think about forwarding it to your "friends".
15. You got this e-mail from a friend that never talks to you any more,
except to send you jokes from the net.
16. You are too busy to notice there was no No. 9.
17. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a No.9.
Green Rock
What happens when you throw a green rock in the Red sea?
It gets wet.
Anthill Golfing
Once there was a golfer whose drive landed on an anthill. Rather than move
the ball, he decided to hit it where it lay. He gave a mighty swing. Clouds
of dirt and sand and ants exploded from the spot. Everything but the golfball.
It sat in the same spot.
So he lined up and tried another shot. Clouds of dirt and sand and ants
went flying again. The golf ball didn't even wiggle.
Two ants survived. One dazed ant said to the other, "Whoa! What are
we going to do?"
Said the other ant: "I don't know about you, but I'm going to get on
the ball."

Tiger Aimed To Serve -Though Apple's new operating
system is simple even for the most unschooled computer person to use, it
is particularly geared for the most serious professionals. Tiger has built-in
tools that make the operating system especially suited for bringing out the
performance potential in XServe. These deeply rooted programs, including
Spotlight and Automater, are much more than just nice features. They will
make a huge difference to developers in the future. -
from MacWorld
iWay Or The Highway - Although iTunes has
been the most successful way to sell digital music, there is question as
to whether there are other ways that could work. Some companies may try to
offer free streaming, for example. Some are offering playlists on websites
while still charging a four dollar subscription fee per month. All in all,
Apple CEO Steve Jobs' comment is that he really doesn't hear the public expressing
a need for anything other than iTunes. - from NewsWeek
Microsoft Under The Microscope - Microsoft
is coming under heavy criticism that suggests it has a mere two years in
which to sink or swim. The software giant is facing more than a few stones
being thrown its way, including increased competition, browser wars and open-source
software. These infractions have already put Microsoft into survival mode
and will either break it or make it stronger than ever before. Only time
will tell. - from BBC

New Desktops for this week's Desktop Edition! And what a round of
eye candy fun we have. So before you scroll down to the treats, strap yourself
in and hang on to your seats...Let's boogie!
3-D Rendered - After 20 plus hours of rendering,
not to mention the time
taken in its creation, master desktop crafter Juergen Eilts from ShiftedReality certainly
could use a breather as well as A
Place To Rest! Perhaps hard to believe - both the artificial life
form and the time it took to make - this extraordinary piece by Juergen
was crafted with Vue 5 Infinite...Amazing!
Desktops - Trippin' out on the tricks
of light's lavishness is Dave Hornsby,
waving his GUI wand and casting a Trick
of the Light 17! This incredible and almost edible selection from
Dave's prolific talents sports his hat of lightable tricks
and will illuminate your desktop like fireworks lighting the sky. Get
ready for your eyes to shine with this fabulous number!
Logos - Back in black, XÅERO
STUDIOS' Francisco Bennett raises the bar
on size, excellence, and style while showing that 'X' clearly marks the
spot with his latest Logo design found in Tiger
10.4! Now that Apple's Tiger has been unleashed into the OS
domain, this slick pic will make great your desktop's backdrop adding radiance
without unnecessary clutter!
Nature - Hopping in the seat of Nature's
swing, Bob
Wiley sports a sweet
shot of the surrounding scenery with Set
Around. This most amazing view features the sunset around the University
of Virginia's architecture building, Campbell Hall with the photo credited
to V. Baudoin. With a snapshot like this, why not let the sun go down
on me...Light 'em up!

Cross Breeding
Q: What do you get when you cross a dinosaur with a pig?
A: Jurassic pork!
21st Century Man Part I
You know you're living in the 21st Century when...
1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.
2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.
3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.
4. You e-mail your friend who works at the desk next to you.
5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends is that they do not
have e-mail addresses.
6. When you go home after a long day at work you still answer the phone
in a business manner.
7. When you make phone calls from home, you accidentally dial "9" to
get an outside line.
8. You've sat at the same desk for four years and worked for three different
companies.
Constipation
Did you hear about the new movie "Constipation?"
It hasn't come out yet.
Einsteinium
Albert Einstein used to go to dinners where he was invited to give a speech.
One day, on his way to one of those dinners, he told his chauffeur (who looked
exactly like him) that he was dead tired of giving the same speech, dinner
after dinner.
"Well," said the chauffeur, "I've got a good idea. Why don't
I give the speech since I've heard it so many times?'' So Albert's chauffeur
gave the speech perfectly and even answered a few questions. Then, a professor
stood up and asked him a really tough question about anti-matter which the
chauffeur couldn't answer.
"Sir, the answer to your question is so easy that I'll let my chauffeur
answer it!"

Tiger Takes On Computer World - There are
some things people will never come together on. Like Ford or Chevy, Leno
or Letterman, Mac or PC. Make no mistake, Tiger is not about to bring Mac
and PC people together. It is, however, all about bringing people over to
the Mac. Known already as the easiest existing system to operate, it has
not only upped the standard for Windows next operating system, but will draw
in many more Mac fans in the mean time. -

iPod Shuffle Pulls Its Weight -
iPod Shuffle, though the smallest music gadget yet, is holding up its end
by bringing in a promising share of profit for Apple. The legendary little
device has gone head to head with all the other MP3 players on the market
and has still managed to raise its global shares by more than ten points
in four months. All of this in spite of initial shortages of the product
prove it is alive and kicking. - from PC

Torturing Teens - Gone are the days of
time-outs and grounding. If parents really want to get through to their teens
these days, it is suggested that they take away their cell phone privileges.
Roughly three fourths of teens surveyed indicated that the cell phone is
a necessity. Taking away their cell phones would be like losing the use of
one of their appendages and handicap them socially. Since
I don't have a cell phone, is that why I walk funny?! - from Yahoo

At
The Top - We're back! And quite the week it has been. Seems
like the more
one sets out to accomplish, the less one gets done! Perhaps we should
plan for a month's worth of work, and a year's worth of fruition would
be at hand. But that would be heavy and me hands would be FULL! Oh
well, never the no mind. It will all get done some how, some day, one
way or another...I'm gonna getcha, getcha, getcha, getcha...Oh brother!
Enough of that!!! Let's just bypass the Monkie non-sense and make the
best of another round of Monday madness!

Odds and Ends
Ride 'Em, Cowboy - John
Wayne was on the Top Ten Box Office List 25 times during
his career, more often than any other film star in history.
Between the years 1949 and 1974, there was only one year
that Wayne did not appear on the list: 1956. Four times
Wayne landed in the Number 1 Box Office spot — in
1950, 1951, 1954, and 1971.

What Sound
A group of young children were sitting in a circle with
their teacher. She was going around in turn asking them
all questions.
"Davey, what sound does a cow make?"
Davey replied, "It goes 'moo'."
"Alice, what sound does a cat make?"
Alice said, "It goes 'meow'."
"Jamie, what sound does a lamb make?"
Jamie said, "It goes 'baaa'."
"Jennifer, what sound does a mouse make?"
Jennifer paused, and said, "Uhh...it goes...'click'!"

Teacher to student: Arnold what is the most popular
answer to the teacher's questions?
Arnold: I don't know ma'am.
Teacher: Correct!
Ms Fix-It
My sister has the courage, but not always the skills,
to tackle any home repair project.
For example, in her garage are pieces of a lawnmower
she once tried to fix. So I wasn't surprised the day
my other sister, Dianne, and I found our sister attacking
her vacuum cleaner with a screwdriver.
"I can't get this thing to cooperate," she
explained when she saw us.
Dianne suggested, "Why don't you drag it out to
the garage and show it the lawnmower?"
Move
