Apple Takes
PC Award - PC Magazine has handed
Apple the honor of having the overall
best personal computer, the Power Mac G5. Apple was awarded
in this category as
part of PC Magazine’s Technical Excellence Awards.
Aimed at acknowledging the advancement of technology, the
awards feature the importance of future impact on technology

Southern 'Drawl'
Spoils System - Voice recognition can be
very vexing at times. In Louisiana, for example, police
discovered that a great deal of calls coming in were being
transferred consistently to different departments than requested.
Apparently the voice recognition system, which asks callers
to say which department they are requesting, even incorrectly
transfers the police chief's calls regularly. Errors are
due to the southern drawl of those who call in, and the
police station will be going to touch tone service to solve
the problem. - from cnews

At The Top
- Ahhhhhh! It feels mighty fine to be on top of the mid-week
roller coaster hump and on the downward push toward the
end of the week. There's been some cool events happening
in the Apple world and it's always nice to have some sweet
GUI treats to top it all off. So let's break out our Wednesday
Desktop Edition accompanied by News and Bananas too. Ready
to dine? Let's dig in!

New GOO!
New
Desktops - There's no better way to add a fresh
coat of happiness to your desktop than to choose from
this
week's selection of 6 New Desktops! We
ensure fine GUI dining and a great seat to make for a
pleasant
eye candy X-perience. Let's have a look!
Desktops - Presenting
the parting the seas and the wonder of the waves is
Jameson
Sasser with his latest desktop work titled Undying
Waters. It takes a great divide to the
land of all things digitized. This amazing digital
selection from Jameson would probably make
Moses proud
with his
staff
in one hand and...an Apple in the other!
Good, good news! William
D. Thompson steps
in with another outstanding desktop photo titled Mineral
de Pozos. The view offers a glimpse
of what once was home to over 300 silver mining operations,
then
abandoned
following
the turmoil resulting from the Mexican Revolution of
1910. Quite the work of art!
Are you feelin' blue, like to sing the blues,
or just love the color? Then we've got just the blue hue
for you! Dave Hornsby sports his neon-like digital design
with an awesome number titled Blue
01. Though this exceptional creation will
add the blues to your desktop, its sure to brighten your
day in a major sort of way!
Nature - Entering in to
our Nature Department are two hands, two feet, two lips...Okay!
I'll get serious! Especially since Tulip
2 by Pictures
and Adicons' Adam Dickson adds
some serious beauty for your eyes to behold. This time
of year is just right to plant one of Adam's nature works
to add warmth to the cold surroundings!
3-D Rendered - Gathering
together a massive group of pixel resources is the
honorable Alan Sherwood of burntcanvasdesign. With Amassing
An Army, Alan shares his signature Bryce
abilities that distinctively set his work into a field
of its own. Would that mean Alan is out standing
in his field?
Strike one! Strike two! Ball
5? Well, yup. You got the name correct. MacMonkies'
Bradford Wiles has the strangest way with words to describe
the pixels he pushes. But, in reality, there is a logical
explanation. This piece is simply the 5th version of a
Bryce piece that was first released as Big
Three. Enjoy!
Thanks

A:

EULOGY There
were three men standing at the Pearly Gates of Heaven
when Saint Peter met them and asked, "What
would
each
of you like to hear your relatives or friends say at
your funeral?"
The first man answered, "I
am a renowned doctor and I would love to hear someone
say how I had
been instrumental
in saving someone's life."
The second man replied, "I
am a family man and a school teacher. I would like to
hear someone say what a great
husband and father I was and that I had made a difference
in some young person's life."
The third man said, "Wow
guys, those are really great sentiments but I guess if
I had my choice I
would rather

Macs Make History -
It’s official!
Experts have been guessing for weeks at how Virginia
Tech’s supercomputer would rank in the world,
some saying it would rank second and others guessing third.
The official ranking
was released Sunday for the Supercomputer conference in
Phoenix, Arizona, and the computer clustered with Apple
G5s came in third. It was also noted that Virginia Tech’s
is only the third computer in the world to reach speeds
of over 10 teraflops (floating operations per second).
Japan’s Earth Simulator still holds first place. - from MacCentral
High Tech Jobs -
Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, has been listed as one of the most influential
executives in the high tech industry last year. Mac’s main man
ranked number eleven out of the top twenty five influential
tech execs. Those lingering on CMP’s list will be
looked to by business buffs as the guiding light when it
comes to what direction to move next in the tech world.
Jobs, who has gone from being a well-known computer icon
to a newly discovered digital icon, will be a part of that
compass directing our future into all things technological. - from MacMinute and United Business Media

At
The Top - Well,
well, well. What a pile of Monkie poop this last weekend brought
about. As I am sure most of you noticed, MacMonkies was
down most of Saturday as our site was moved to a more
"powerful" server. That is, one without e mail service,
one with broken scripts, and to one that we were not notified
in advance. We are still without e mail, so if you need
to contact us, please use our Contact
Page (at least I
think it still works) or send your e mail to macmonkies@mac.com.
For those of you who have
been visiting the Monkie Zoo for a while, you probably
realize that it is
not like me to express my "irks" and "rants" publicly.
Since the beginning of MacMonkies, I have always tried
to present
a positive
spin on the web's news and events. However, I am more and
more amazed at the lack of quality and consistency in so
many things
these days. It certainly leaves one a tad bit discouraged.
You also may realize that I don't usually
ask for others' help very often, if at all. But...Since
this Monkie mind is running out of ideas, I would like
to ask for your input. If any of you have ideas regarding
good, consistent, inexpensive, hosting solutions, I would
like to hear from you. I haven't yet decided whether or
not I will move the Monkie Site, as I have been "assured"
that the current and past issues will be "permanently"
resolved. But I think it's time to check into other options.
So, if you have any ideas you would like
to share, I would like to hear from you. Simply try the
Contact Page or drop me a line at macmonkies@mac.com. I
look forward to hearing from you. Thanks!

THE
RULES (BY HER) Part
II
10.
The Female has every right to be angry or upset at any
time.
11. The Male
must remain calm at all times, unless the Female
wants him to be angry or upset.
12. The Female
must, under no circumstances, let the Male know
whether she wants him to be
angry or upset.
13. The Male
is expected to read the mind of the Female at all
times.
14. At all times,
what is important is what the Female meant, not
what she said.
15. If the Male
doesn't abide by THE RULES, it is because he can't
take the heat,

16. If the Female

17. Any attempt

If the Male, at any time, believes he is right,
he must refer to Rule #5 (The Female is never wrong).
