New Desktop -
Wanna know how a Monkie becomes a squirrel? Lotsa work, little sleep, and
blurry eyes makes for a Monkie a bit on the squirrely side. So let's slide
into the side of the latest GUI groove from Mr. Monkie Bradford
Wiles!
Nature - Wow. Did
I just say wow? I mean like out loud and all? Me
supposes it is possible. Or is it just a front? Something like an Eminence
Front? No...that's a put on. I mean, wait! It's NOT a put on.
Okay, maybe just a **little** put on. This spiffy little Pick of Nature
(pun intended) was taken on a "real camera" way back in 2006 right after
the Jackson Canyon
fire on Casper Mountain. This particular shot was taken about half
way up the mountain looking down on the town of Casper itself. And yes,
it is most obviously color enhanced to brighten up your desktop caught
in the doldrums...Enjoy!!

Strange
A lawyer named Strange died, and his friend asked the tombstone maker to
inscribe on his tombstone, "Here lies Strange, an honest man, and
a lawyer."
The inscriber insisted that such an inscription would be confusing, for
passers - by would tend to think that three men were buried under the stone.
However he suggested an alternative. He would inscribe, "Here lies a
man who was both honest and a lawyer."
That way, whenever anyone walked by the tombstone and read
it, they would be certain to remark, "That's Strange."
Revolting!
A Latin American tour guide was addressing a small group of senior citizens
and telling them about the country they were visiting. When he asked if they
had any questions, one person inquired, "What is the number one sport
in this country?"
"Bullfighting," the guide replied.
The same person asked, "Isn't that revolting?"
"No," replied the tour guide. "That's number two!""

Nudity!
I was driving with my three young children one warm summer
evening when a woman in the convertible ahead of us stood up and waved. She
was stark naked! As I was reeling from the shock, I heard my 5-year-old shout
from the back seat, "Mom! That lady isn't wearing a seat belt!

Odds and Ends
Labor Day - Labor
Day, which always is observed on the first Monday of September has been a
federal holiday since 1894, but was observed in some places before that day
as a result of a campaign by an early organization of workers called the
Knights of Labor. Its purpose is to honor the nation's working people. In
many cities the day is marked by parades of working people representing the
labor unions.
Most Americans consider Labor Day the end of the summer, and the beaches
and other popular resort areas are packed with people enjoying one last three-day
weekend. For many students it marks the opening of the school year.
The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882,
in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union.
The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later,
on September 5, 1883. In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected
as the holiday, as originally proposed, and the Central Labor Union urged
similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and
celebrate a "workingmen's holiday" on that date. The idea spread
with the growth of labor organizations, and in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated
in many industrial centers of the country.
Through the years the nation gave increasing emphasis to Labor Day. The
first governmental recognition came through municipal ordinances passed during
1885 and 1886. From them developed the movement to secure state legislation.
The first state bill was introduced into the New York legislature, but the
first to become law was passed by Oregon on February 21, 1887. During the
year four more states -- Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York
-- created the Labor Day holiday by legislative enactment. By the end of
the decade Connecticut, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania had followed suit. By
1894, 23 other states had adopted the holiday in honor of workers, and on
June 28 of that year, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September
of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories.
