Lincoln: Quotes
- Am I not destroying my enemies when I make
friends of them?
- The brave men, living and dead, who struggled
here, have consecrated it, above our poor power to add
or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember,
what we say here, but it can never forget what they did
here.
- America will never be destroyed from the outside. If
we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we
destroyed ourselves.
- The things I want to know are in books; my best friend
is the man who'll get me a book I ain't read.
- It is true that you may fool all the people some of
the time; you can even fool some of the people all the
time; but you cannot fool all of the people all the time.

New iMac On
Deck? - An analyst from Merrill
Lynch is anticipating the arrival of a new iMac at this
year's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). According
to the analyst, there are a couple arrows pointing in the
direction of a new Apple iMac. One is that iMac sales have
gone down and the other is that it is simply time for an
update because the flat-panel iMac is two years old. Because
of these reasons, he expects Jobs to play a new iMac card
at WWDC. - from MacMinute

iTunes Tops Europe - The launch of the iTunes
Music Store in Europe last week has exponentially sent
music downloads over the top. iTunes sold sixteen times
more songs than it's closest competitor, totaling more
than 800,000 downloads in it's first week. Half of those
songs were downloaded in the UK, which already has other
online music stores in place. iTunes' vast success is proving
the value and versatility of Apple's music store across
the country and, now, around the world. - from Apple
Army Apples -
Apple has agreed to assist the US Army in being all that
it can be. The US Army is
building a supercomputer of it's own, purchasing 1,566
Apple Xserve G5s to accomplish it's goal. It chose the
road of Apple due to price, proximity and performance. "MACH
5" will not only be less pricey to purchase, but will
also be more cost efficient to maintain, as the Apple G5
runs on less power than other computers to which it was
compared. - from MacMinute

Shazzam! In to add spizzaz to your mid-week mundane moments
is the latest in fine desktop design for your Wednesday
Desktop Edition! Fantabulous new desktop wonders are accompanied
by Community News, Software News On The Net, and some Bananas
to boost your grin power. Let's not let the frowns come
to town...Let's get to grinnin'!
New GOO!
New Desktops -
There's a hot time in the GUI Gallery to be had as we introduce
2 New Artists and 6 New Desktops for this
week's Wednesday Desktop Edition! And just think: You have
front row seats to enjoy every last pixel of pleasure.
Lights, camera, action!
Nature - This spring was
a special one as Magicicada Brood X locust (a specific
Genus of cicada) emerged
after
waiting underground for 17 years! The most artistic Laurie
Kramer gives you a close up view of the Cicada in
this excellent snapshot. These loud little wingers don't
last long, as they are all starting to die, leaving
cicada carcasses all over the place. YUM!
3-D Rendered - Bring your
eye candy eyes front and center and get a grand view
of Close,
a most amazing piece by Elpincho!
This stronger-than-steel selection appears to be an up
close view of Apple's G5 perforated front panel that
provides for optimal airflow. Whether or not this is
the case, this hot number is sure to take your breath
away!
Speaking of Apples, get ready to enjoy
a bite of the big Mac with the shiny, smooth, and slick
semblance of Apple
Chrome by grnluvbug's gifted
GUI gal Joy Tallant! Though this Apple of your desktop
eye could find its way into several categories in the
Gallery, we chose the 3-D Department for its eye popping,
in your face, ready to eat flavor in design. Munch!
Gads! Sometimes it seems next to impossible
to title a piece of work that has
no intended meaning! At least that explains the naming
game behind FractureerutcarF,
the latest reflective piece by MacMonkies' webmaster
Bradford Wiles. The selection was simply derived from
the Bryce "wires" of Fracture,
and then flipped around in Photoshop for "reflection."
Desktops - And he's back!
Batting a thousand in the desktop ballpark is Ed
Allen of EA Design with
a brush of Bristol.
Ed has certainly continued to master his craft, as you're
sure to see in this most artistic rendering of Bristol,
the city of southwest England west of London. You just
can't hide your GUI love away with this ticket to ride.
Dig it!
Like
totally far out, dude! Master desktop crafter Bob
Wiley returns with a #1
hit on the desktop charts with Sikadel
1! This totally groovey blast of color
and vividry will propel your desktop senses to a time
line of the mind's future past. There's no need for
mind altering elements here...This number will blow
your mind all on its own! Enjoy!

THE LORD
WILL PROVIDE
Old
Mrs. Watkins awoke one spring morning to find that
the river had flooded the entire first
floor of her
house. Looking out of her window, she saw that the
water was still rising. Two men passing by in a rowboat
shouted up an invitation to row to safety with them. "No,
thank you," Mrs. Watkins replied. "The
Lord will provide."
The men shrugged and rowed on. By evening, the water
level forced Mrs. Watkins to climb on top of the roof
for safety. She was spotted by a man in a motorboat,
who offered to pick her up. "Don't trouble yourself," she
told him. "The Lord will provide."
Pretty soon, Mrs. Watkins had to seek refuge atop the
chimney. When a Red Cross cutter came by on patrol,
she waved it on, shouting, "The Lord will provide." So
the boat left, the water rose, and the old woman drowned.
Dripping wet and thoroughly annoyed, she came through
the pearly gates and demanded to speak to God. "What
happened?" she cried.
"For cryin' out loud, lady," God
said, "I
sent three boats."

JUST LIKE NEW
A blonde wanted to sell her car, but
couldn't find any buyers. She called her friend for
advice, and her friend asked her how many miles she
had on her car.
"235,000 miles." Her friend told her that
was the problem. But the blonde's friend told her that
her
brother is a mechanic and could put back the miles
to whatever she wanted. So the blonde went to the mechanic
and told him to put the miles at 40,000.
Two days later
the blond's friend asked her if she sold the car since
her brother dropped the miles.
The blonde told
her, "Why
would I sell the car? There are only 40,000 miles on
it!"

taps the driver on the shoulder to ask him something.
The driver screams, loses control of the car, nearly

For a second everything
went quiet in the cab, then the driver said, "Look
friend, don't EVER do that again. You scared the daylights

The passenger apologizes
